Team EMIT gave 8 young runners born between 1999 and 2002 (4 girls and 4 boys) from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Spain the opportunity to train and prepare together for international orienteering events with WOC 2025 in Kuopio, Finland as a market goal.
Each year we offered the team 2-3 training camps, some equipment and top elite coaching at training camps.
At the time, the concept of a private team in orienteering was new. The main goal was to give young athletes, who were not on the national team, the opportunity to train and prepare for international races. At the same time, we wanted Emit to receive positive attention from the orienteering community. We also wanted to create a team that could learn from each other and have fun together.
To select the athletes, we decided to find the best athletes from the Nordic countries who was not in a national team. We had almost 100 applicants and ended up with a Nordic team + Ana from Spain. A great mix of young and motivated athletes.
Emit is very satisfied with how the concept was received by the orienteering world. We received a lot of credit and attention from the orienteering community.
There were of course some challenges along the way, but almost all athletes got the opportunity to represent their country at international races, and all had individual development.
If we had had the opportunity and time, we would have liked to develop Team Emit further, but at this point we are ending this concept.
We would like to thank all athletes for their wonderful commitment, Eivind as the group’s optimistic coach, Andrine and Viktor as fantastic mentors, Lotte as administrator, social media and sparring partner. In addition, we would like to thank a number of speakers, former top athletes and experts who shared their knowledge with our athletes.
We would also like to thank our sponsors VJ and WOL!
